After over 5 years, at 9:08pm (PDT) on September 10th, 2009, KNGY - Energy 92.7's format was changed to 92.7FM The Revolution, playing the same, Top 40 CHR mix as several other San Francisco radio stations. Here at A Reason To Dance - Radio G!, we feel the pain of many listeners in San Francisco who feel they have lost a friend, whether it was Fernando and Greg in the morning, or just a station they could count on to always be upbeat and supportive. We are extremely saddened when we hear of broadcast dance music stations that have met their demise. Although we were not regular listeners to Energy, we too feel like we lost a relative or friend, or at least a station that would stand with us to share great dance music all over the world via broadcast on or offline.
Listen to the final sign-off of Energy 92.7. The United States has few remaining dance radio stations. Dance music is often viewed by the mainstream as "too gay", or not serious enough to attract real advertisers and support. It seems more and more that dance music is being pushed off the broadcast airwaves, and left only to the internet. And, while online dance stations like A Reason To Dance - Radio G! love to have you as listeners, it's sad to see that apparently, dance radio is not commercially viable, and can only survive in the US with the support of fans and people who donate of their time and money to keep commercial-free stations on the air. At A Reason To Dance - Radio G!, we don't think that we can ever fill the shoes of Fernando and Greg, and all of the rest of the Energy staff. And, we don't foresee a time when we'll be broadcasting over the air in the San Francisco area. At some point, we do hope internet radio will make it's way into your cars and trucks, but right now, that's a fairly expensive proposition. But, we do have something to offer. First, we want to extend a huge welcome and hug to you, and we sincerely thank you for checking us out as you look for a new dance radio home. We'd like the opportunity to fill the niche that Energy 92.7 had in your lives. We encourage you to give us a listen, and let us know how we're doing.
